Villagers happy to be speeding

MORE than 1,000 Kempsey residents are celebrating after receiving connection to new superfast broadband.

Engineers have recently installed six fibre roadside cabinets in the village, enabling around 1,500 villagers to connect to the new fibre broadband network, with further upgrade work due to start in the coming months.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin hailed the progress of the ambitious roll-out upon a visit to Kempsey, and heard how more than 40,000 premises are now able to access faster fibre broadband as a result of the Superfast Worcestershire programme.

A further 8,000 county homes and businesses will have access to faster fibre broadband by autumn 2017 – nine months ahead of schedule – through Worcestershire County Council and BT’s ‘Superfast Extension Programme’.

“It’s good to see Superfast Worcestershire extending the reach of fibre connections to more and more communities,” said Mrs Baldwin.

“I expect Kempsey’s residents and businesses will welcome the arrival of superfast connectivity and I encourage as many people as possible to take advantage of this service.

“At a national level, Government has set out an ambitious plan to have every home in the county connected to a superfast connection in the next five years. I will continue to campaign until every home and business gets access to this vital service,” she added.
