FORMER Worcester Warrior Alex Grove conquered the world’s busiest shipping lane in a sponsored swim for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The retired sportsman completed his ambitious bid to swim the English Channel having faced unprecedented challenges during training at the height of the Coronavirus lockdown.

Alex, who is a familiar face at Acorns for the Three Counties based in Worcester, announced ambitious plans to swim the English Channel for the charity last December.

He finally set off in the early hours of Sunday morning (August 9) and completed the challenge at around 2pm after a 13 hour and 57min swim.

Mel Hall, area fund-raiser for Acorns, said: “We are in awe of what Alex has achieved. His hard work and determination over the last 12 months, in the face of some very unexpected challenges, has been truly inspiring.
