Tudor tour to probe the Bard's marriage for 400th

THE MYSTERY of Shakespeare’s marriage will be explored in a special Tudor Tour commemorating the 400th anniversary of his death.

Held at The Hive on Saturday, April 23 and organised by Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service (WAAS), the tour will delve into the archives which show the marriage bond of the world famous playwright who married Anne Hathaway in the Faithful City in 1582.

The tour will expose a discrepancy in the marriage bond and an entry in the Bishop’s register which could either be a simple spelling mistake or a hint towards the true identity of Shakespeare’s wife.

Visitors will also get the chance to see the will of Shakespeare’s grandfather as well as other 16th century items including pottery found during digs in the county.

The Hive will be hosting a range of other activities over the weekend, celebrating the life and work of this great writer and playwright.

Paul Hudson, Outreach Manager, said: “As part of the Shakespeare event in The Hive we thought we’d rerun our popular Tudor Tour. We will focus on Shakespeare’s marriage bond, as well as showing visitors the range of documents and archaeology from the Tudor period which we have here.

“It is a fascinating period in history and we have some amazing items in the collections here.”

The tour will be held at The Hive from 2pm to 3.30pm on Saturday, April 23. Places are £5 and need to be booked in advance via www.thehiveworcester.org.uk
