Trust handed £3million Government building boost

Worcester Editorial 15th Dec, 2020   0

HEALTH chiefs have been handed an early Christmas present with £3million from the Government to fund seven new projects at the county’s hospitals.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has been handed the seven-figure sum to fund seven projects at its hospitals including £770,000 to invest in CCTV, fire and health and safety initiatives.

A total of £100,000 will be used to kick start the replacement scheme which will ultimately lead to a new boiler house to serve Aconbury West at the Worcestershire Royal.

In addition to the more than £3million handed to the cash-strapped trust, a further £960,000 has been granted to Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust for improvements to the heating and hot water systems at its Moor Street health centre.

“It was great to hear the Worcestershire Acute Trust will benefit from this funding to carry out vital maintenance work over the coming months,” said Worcester MP Robin Walker.

“I know this money will be put to good use to help future-proof facilities in my constituency.

“Projects like these will provide NHS staff with the facilities they need to enable the continuation of world-class care to patients, helping our NHS to build back better after the pandemic.

“This year has shown us all how vital the NHS is to our country and I am glad the government has made this its top spending priority, investing more than ever before in people and facilities.”

The money is part of a £1.5billion cash boost announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the summer to invest in NHS infrastructure across the UK.

While £600million will be spent on critical maintenance upgrades, the remainder will be spent on modernising mental health facilities, expanding A&E capacity and improving infection control ahead of winter.
