FRIENDS, family and staff at the Midlands Air Ambulance charity have paid tribute to long-term supporter Jenny Ashman who has died.

Jenny was born in Cardiff a teacher in Newcastle before moving to Inkberrow in 1975.

Jenny’s son, Jon Ashman said she was a wonderful woman.

“My mum was so generous with her time, she would help anyone who needed it.

“It’s was all a bit of a shock, and we’re going to miss her so much.”

After Jenny retired from teaching she started fund-raising for the Midlands Air ambulance charity.

During her 30 years supporting the Midlands Air Ambulance she raised almost £2million for the charity.

She won the charity’s Volunteer of the Year Award at the ‘AIR25 Celebration Party, Recognition Awards and Charity Ball’ on July 8, 2016.

‘Jenny from the Chopper’ as she is affectionately known, has been involved with Midlands Air Ambulance Charity since her son became one of the first ever air medics.

Wearing her signature red flying suit whenever she fund-raised, Jenny was awarded a Point of Light in recognition award in May 2016 from then Prime Minister David Cameron.

Jon added: “We were so proud of mum for all the work she has done with the charity.

“She dedicated 25 years of her life to raising money, and has made a real difference to so many lives.”

People attending the funeral are being urged to wear a ‘splash of red’ in honour of her red flying suit and anyone thinking of sending flowers is asked to donate to the Midlands Air Ambulance in her name instead.

A Midlands Air Ambulance charity spokesperson said: “Jenny was a true treasure.

“Her unwavering dedication and commitment to the charity’s lifesaving cause through her volunteering and fund-raising activity was truly inspirational.

“Everyone was extremely saddened to hear of her passing.

“To pay their respects, Jenny’s beloved Helipod and a number of charity staff who worked closely with her will be in attendance at Jenny’s funeral on Friday.”
