Tree-mendous idea to spruce up Lower Wick open space

A TREE-MENDOUS addition has been made to The Green in Lower Wick with the arrival of four new trees.

The local focal point has been enhanced with the planting of two red maples and two silver birches to the much-loved open space.

Coun Alan Amos, Bedwardine city and county councillor, rolled up his sleeves to plant the trees in one of the few pieces of open green space left in the area.

“It is particularly important for elderly people who benefit from a bit of fresh air and some exercise with or without their dogs and I have always fought to protect and improve it,” he said.

“I started the improvement last year by putting in four benches in each corner which have proved very popular and well-used.

“Small localised schemes like this make all the difference to local communities and I am keen to plant more in other places as well as provide more benches, and I look forward to residents’ suggestions where,” he added.
