STUDENTS from Bishop Perowne CE College who are starring in the school’s upcoming production of Matilda were recently treated to a visit from Tom Muggeridge, the resident dance captain for the cast of ‘Matilda the Musical’ in London’s West End.

Having trained with the English National Ballet, Tom has performed in musicals such as Wicked, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and West Side Story.

Throughout the workshop with the Bishop Perowne students, Tom worked on various numbers in the show giving direction and choreography, and also added in dance moves he and his colleagues perform in the show.

The students also enjoyed a visit from Gillian Hipp from Hereford College of Arts who taught them aerial dance moves using hoops and silks. They learnt the art of moving upside down and new movements that they can incorporate into their Matilda performance.

Teacher Celia Alexander said: “Tom put students through their paces and treated them as professional artists to help them appreciate the level of performance required by the cast of the West End show.

“Being part of our production takes a lot of commitment from the students and we are all extremely proud of the dedication that has been shown by those performing and those who are part of the backstage cast.

Bishop Perowne’s performances of Matilda takes place at 7pm between June 27 and 29 and tickets are £6 per adult and £4 per student/concession from the school’s finance office in the main reception.

All the money raised from ticket sales will be used to support the school’s future performing arts activities.
