TWO PEOPLE are in a serious condition in hospital after a three-car crash on the M5 yesterday evening (Tuesday).
The incident happened about 4.50pm on the northbound carriageway of the motorway between Junction 6 (Worcester North) and Junction 5 (Droitwich).
Two fire crews from Droitwich and one from Worcester were sent to the scene and four people had to be cut free from vehicles, including a passenger transport service (PTS) vehicle.
Five ambulances, three rapid response vehicles and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended and six people in total were taken to hospital.
Two who were in the PTS suffered serious injuries received emergency treatment at the scene and were taken to the Worcestershire Royal, along with the PTS driver who sustained minor injuries.
Three others who were in the cars also suffered minor injuries and, after being treated by paramedics, were taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.
The carriageway was closed for three hours and a Central Motorway Police spokesperson thanked people for their patience while the situation was sorted out. The diversion route caused congestion around Droitwich for its duration.
An investigation has been launched by CMPG into the crash.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “The Trust will co-operate fully with the police investigation into the circumstances of the crash to find out exactly what happened.”
