Thousands enjoy a walk through our history

HUNDREDS of people came face-to-face with Vikings, ancient Greeks and soldiers in the city centre.

The Commandery hosted the Living History event last weekend (February 14 and 15) with displays from 150 re-enactors, encampments, military drills, fashion through the ages and vintage vehicles.

About 2,000 people of all ages went along, almost double last year’s number.

The weekend used several historical buildings including the Royal Headquarters, the final and deciding battle of the English Civil War.

The exhibition was part of the Love Worcester Heritage Festival in partnership with Worcester Re-enactors who took part as volunteers and covered 2,000 years of history.

Helen Large, marketing and events manager at Museums Worcestershire, said: “The Living History event was a great success, there was a fantastic atmosphere as the re-enactors engaged with the visitors. There was literally something in every space at The Commandery.

“Almost 2,000 people attended the event over the weekend and many were visitors to Worcester, illustrating how important The Commandery is to the tourist offer of the city.

“We are extremely grateful to the Worcester Re-enactors for their hard work and organisation of the event. We hope they will return next year.”
