Think pink when it comes to health this weekend

Worcester Editorial 27th Jan, 2023   0

‘PINK PARTIES’ to encourage women to attend cervical screenings have been launched by Worcester City Primary Care Network.

Together with Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, Worcester City Primary Care Network has taken the wraps off the events to encourage local women and people with cervixes to go for screenings in a supportive, empowering environment.

The first Pink Party will be held on Saturday (January 28) at St Martin’s Gate Surgery and again on February 11 at St John’s House Surgery from 9am to 1pm.

Visitors do not need an appointment to attend and are encouraged to come along even if they just want to have an open chat about smear tests, as staff will be happy to talk through any questions or concerns.

Attendees will be welcomed to a safe space to learn the vital importance of cervical screenings and to receive theirs if they feel comfortable doing so.

The scheme is being pioneered by Worcester City PCN’s nurse manager Leanne Grinnell, who said: “Smear tests are a vital step towards preventing cervical cancer, and there’s nothing to be embarrassed or nervous about.

“We really want to encourage women to come forward and get theirs this January, and to feel comfortable making it part of their health care routine.

“Our team are more than happy to talk to you about any questions you might have, so please don’t be afraid – pop in and see us and tick it off your list this January.”

Anyone wishing to talk through the benefits and potential risks of the screening beforehand can call Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust free helpline on 0808802 8000 where trained helpline volunteers will be on hand.
