Thieves 'forgot to pay' for goods

Worcester Editorial 29th Dec, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A PAIR of thieves stole almost £100 worth of items between them from a city centre store after they ‘forgot to pay for them’, a court has heard.

Constantin Chiriac and Cosmin Turlica, both of Middle Street, were caught shoplifting in TK Maxx on the High Street about 4.30pm on December 8.

Chiriac, 22, took a wallet worth £16.99 and Turlica, also 22, rolled up three pairs of Diesel underwear, valued at £75, and hid them under his jacket before they left the site, Worcester Magistrates Court heard last Monday (December 22).

A store detective had seen the offence on CCTV and when officers stopped the pair outside Turlica said they had simply forgot to pay for the items, the court was also told.

Defending solicitor Mark Sheward: “There is little sophistication here.

“They went into the shop, saw the items, one item was paid for but Chiriac accepts he didn’t pay for the wallet he had seen and Turlica accepts he selected three items of underwear and didn’t pay for them.

“When stopped outside they were perfectly compliant and went back to the store.

“It is quite out of character for them to behave in this way, they have never been in trouble in this country or – they tell me – back home.”

Chiriac was fined £135 for the offence while Turlica was handed a £70 fine. They were both ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
