'The Champ is Here! - Cena joins the Worcester City faithful in Twitter following spree

HE’S THE 16-time WWE champion turned A-list actor who has championed his charity work and with more than 600 Make-A-Wish visits.

But John Cena is also attracting attention on social media by randomly following accounts which appear to have no real link to the Hollywood heavyweight.

The C-Nation (Cena’s army of loyal fans in the WWE) are among the 14.1million who follow him on Twitter with in excess of 500,000 users now getting a notification to say Cena is following them back.

We’re talking everyone from random fans, comedian-actor Danny Wallace and various regional journalists, home and abroad.

Honestly, you only have to type in ‘John Cena followed me’ on Twitter to pull up literally thousands of results.

Far from Cena’s catchphrase of ‘You Can’t See Me’, it appears the star is determined to be seen by as many people as possible, including Worcester’s MP Robin Walker and Worcester City FC.

His arrival into non-league football certainly got fans dreaming of a possible takeover ala Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney at Wrexham.

One member of the Faithful joked: “New American owner incoming” while another said: “Reckon he should buy us out and we go full Wrexham”.

Another made reference to Cena’s days in the WWE ring and said: “Hope you’ve got plastic seats and not steel chairs.”

But those hoping for a financial boost from another Hollywood star, this time at Claines Lane, may well be disappointed as it appears the mass following is something of a crusade of knowledge for Cena.

Not so long ago, Cena did address the question as to why he follows so many people and the answer was actually quite a simple but wholesome one.

“It’s tough to follow the timelines because of how many people I follow. But I am trying to learn more about the world.”, he told ESPN‘s ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast, confessing that he even went down “a rabbit hole following EDM dance culture and non-fungible tokens and also Twitch streamers”.

He said that part of the reason is that he simply knows “nothing about any of these avenues of the world” and gets a kick out of people following him and vice versa, adding: “I am learning a little bit about each and every person as I go.”

Well that’s just nice, isn’t it?
