Worcester Editorial 17th Sep, 2023   0

WEST Mercia Police’s deputy chief constable Alex Murray will be leading the force until the role can be filled permanently.

Current chief constable Pippa Mills will be leaving the force on Sunday, October 22 to become an Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion has now begun the process of identifying a permanent Chief Constable.

Mr Campion said: β€œI know Alex Murray will be the leader the force, and public, needs to take it through this transitional period.

“Alex will also be able to continue delivering the work Pippa Mills has been doing to deliver a high-quality policing service for the communities of West Mercia.”

DCC Murray said: β€œIt is a huge honour to be able to step in temporarily as the chief constable for West Mercia Police.

“I have big shoes to fill but the public can be reassured that our focus remains on reducing crime and bringing more offenders to justice.”
