GHOSTS and gunpowder are on offer at The Commandery during the half-term holidays with brave young souls being sought to hear spine-tingling tales of creepy characters.
A journey through the historic venue’s 1,000 year history, gruesome ghost hunts and a trail to save The Commandery from Gunpowder Plotters is all on offer from Tuesday (October 30) to next Saturday (November 4).
The grade I listed historic building nestled in the heart of Worcester has witnessed many centuries of history, making it the perfect place to celebrate Halloween, or All Hallows Eve.
Plucky children are invited to demonstrate their spying skills by completing a series of challenges and activities within the creepy house at 11am or 2pm each day during half term.
Older children will enjoy macabre but true tales of hauntings by characters from The Commandery’s varied past.
Ghost tours will take place at 11.30am and 2.15pm each day (2.15pm only on Sunday) to hear about how the Duke of Hamilton’s mortal remains were buried under the floorboards and monks who have been heard chanting at midnight.
Every day during half term, families can enjoy hunting for gunpowder barrels and finding out about the true Gunpowder Plotters of 1605. And of course, all ages can have fun getting dressed up and taking some selfie snaps at the spooky inedible banquet table.
Visitors can also join the Friends of Fort Royal Park and Commandery Gardens to celebrate Halloween with Family Fun from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday (October 31). Young visitors can wear their best fancy dress for a chance to win the annual competition and there will be a treasure hunt in The Commandery and Fort Royal Park.
Finally, those not easily scared can enjoy Terror by Torchlight tours at The Commandery on Halloween at 8pm (doors open at 7.30pm). Join Commandery staff to hear tales of ghostly happenings within one of the most haunted buildings in Worcestershire, complete with a pre-tour bar.
