Taking the plunge for hospice

Worcester Editorial 24th May, 2019   0

DAREDEVIL colleagues will swap their desks for parachutes when they take on a skydive for St Richard’s Hospice.

The team of five from Worcester-based Gtech will take to the skies for the jump from 10,000ft on Saturday, June 8 at Hinton Airfield in Northamptonshire.

Vlad Popescu, Philip Harrison, Charles Obah, Tom Cowles and Jeff Jones are hoping to raise as much as possible for the charity which is close to their hearts.

Mr Harrison, a customer service advisor at Gtech, said: “We’re all excited, I’m sure the nerves will kick in the closer we get to the day.

“A few of us have jumped before, but we also have some that haven’t and one who is scared of heights – so that should be fun!

“We are always looking at ways to build team morale and supporting a local charity that has helped members of our families makes it even better.”

The group all work as customer service advisors and are aged between 20 to 48-years-old.

On the day, they will be given training before taking on the jump strapped to qualified tandem skydive instructors.

Jumpers will reach speeds of up to 120 miles, before being guided to the ground in front of family and friends.

Taking the plunge for the hospice alongside the Gtech team are nine people – with all the St Richard’s spaces booked for the day.

Jodi Brandwood, fund-raiser at St Richard’s, said: “We are so impressed with this fantastic team effort and hope everyone has a great day, making memories to last a lifetime.

“It is only thanks to colleagues, friends, families and individuals getting together and raising money that we are able to continue providing our hospice care to so many. On behalf of all of us here at St Richard’s – thank you!”
