Taking a look at career options

A CITY college held its first ICT and computing fair to give students an insight into different career paths.

Year nine students at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College learnt about the different education and career options available to them when they leave at the end of year 11, such as apprenticeships, sixth form colleges, sixth form in schools and further education courses.

The fair also assisted the students in understanding the importance of computing and ICT in industry.

A variety of exhibitors attended the event, including University of Worcester, Worcester Sixth Form College, University of Oxford, Encription, Worcester Skills Central, OGL Computer, Cyber Security Challenge, Army Apprenticeships, Bell IT Services, and the Worcestershire Careers Central (Connecting Schools and Business Programme).




Matthew Nicholls, Area Leader for ICT at the college said: “We are really excited by this event, giving students access to local organisations, businesses and further education institutions is invaluable to our students. We are really grateful to all our exhibitors for their support”.

Finlay Sullivan who has chosen to study GCSE Science said: “The ICT and Computing Fair is a great idea, I am pleased to have the opportunity to get advice about potential career choices for my future”.


Principal Sean Devlin, said “It was a very successful first Computing Fair thoroughly enjoyed by the students. Special thanks to all the participants and to Mr Nicholls for organising the event.”
