Take a pew and reflect on life

Worcester Editorial 3rd Jul, 2019   0

A HOSPICE is inviting members of the public to take a seat on its travelling bench – and reflect on their life and legacy.

The St Richard’s Hospice ‘Legacy Bench’ will be in place until Monday (July 8) after previously been at the city’s Royal Porcelain Works and the west garden at Worcester Cathedral

It’s hoped the bench will encourage people to think about how they would like to be remembered, while raising awareness of the hospice’s dependence on gifts in wills to fund its care.

Mayor of Worcester, Coun Allah Ditta, said: “St Richard’s Hospice is a much-loved local charity and I am very pleased we have been able to bring its Legacy Bench to the Guildhall.

“I hope people will take time out from their busy lives to spend a few minutes on the bench thinking about their loved ones and the legacy they will leave.”

The fibreglass bench has been decorated by Worcester Stands Tall artist Katie Hodgetts, who used the same blue-and-white design as she created for the hospice’s giraffe, Snowdrop.

Tricia Cavell, fund-raising director at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We are delighted to see our beautiful bench in place at such an iconic city landmark.

“We hope passers-by will take the chance to sit and reflect on what they’d like to be remembered for – whether it is for your life’s work, generosity or something simple like your smile.

“It is also a great way to help raise awareness of our dependence on gifts in wills to fund our hospice services.

Currently, one in six patients are cared for thanks to the generosity of people leaving us legacy gifts. We are so grateful to all those who support us.”
