A GROUP of secondary school students took advantage of an opportunity to learn from a renowned portrait artist.

The year nine and ten pupils of Bishop Perowne C of E College attended the workshop with John Denaro where they created large-scale chalk pastel portraits.

The day was funded by the school and Worcestershire County Council’s Voices and Visions festival.

Student Craig Strachan took part in the event, he said: “It was really daunting at the start of the day to be given a blank A1 sheet that we would draw our portraits on, but the day went by so quickly.

I can’t believe I managed to finish mine and I learnt so much.”

Headteacher, Mark Pollard, said: “As part of our Endeavour Forever Philosophy, it’s important that we give the students a chance to push themselves to develop their talent by working with experts in different fields.

I would like to thank John Denaro for working with the students, they all thoroughly enjoyed th day.

You could see their confident grow as the workshop progressed and all the students learnt new skills that will help them with future art projects.”

Some of the students completes portraits were shown in Worcester Cathedral as part of the Voices and Visions Schools exhibition.
