'Stop Brexit' flyposting slammed by Brexit Party candidate

WORCESTER’S newly-appointed Brexit Party candidate has condemned the ‘wanton vandalism’ which saw Stop Brexit posters stuck to road signs in the heart of the city.

Martin Potter spoke out after he was approached by a member of the public on Sunday (September 29) who drew his attention to the actions.

“The posters had been fly-posted onto road signs at the junction of Castle Street and Foregate Street, by the County Court and just 50 yards from the police station,” Mr Potter said.

“This wanton vandalism seems typical of the anti-democratic nature of those who still want to deny the referendum result.”

The 53-year-old encouraged city residents to report such actions to Worcestershire County Council.

His actions ended a busy weekend for the party which saw members on the streets of the city centre outside the Guildhall on Saturday (September 28) speaking to voters as well as a meeting between Mr Potter and supporters at The Crown on Sunday evening.

A number of new volunteers were recruited at the meeting to help with the campaign which will see Mr Potter fight Conservative incumbent Robin Walker, Labour’s Lynn Denham, the Liberal Democrats Stephen Kearney and the Green Party’s Louis Stephen for the right to represent the Faithful City in Parliament.

“Worcester voted decisively to leave the UK at the 2016 referendum. Worcester voted overwhelmingly in the 2017 General Election for parties promising to deliver on that referendum result. So far this has not happened,” he said.

“Robin Walker has, as a Remainer, consistently voted for a deal which is Brexit In Name Only (BRINO).

“However Parliament voted three times to conclude that it was a bad deal. Nationally, five million Labour Party voters in the referendum result have been systematically betrayed by Labour MPs who have reneged on their manifesto commitment.

“Worcester deserves better representation to enact both the city’s will and the will of the people nationally. I put myself forward to be that representative, and support a clean-break Brexit which will allow Worcester’s and Britain’s interests to take priority, in order to build our markets worldwide and build our wealth for future generations.

“I look forward to a nation retrieving its democracy, and regaining its conviction and confidence to determine its own future,” he added.
