Staffy rescuers in appeal for help

Worcester Editorial 29th Jul, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A CITY dog rescue is pleading for volunteers to help their increasing demand and need for funds.

The Senior Staffy Club, based in Broomhall, Worcester, re-home Staffordshire Bull Terriors and Staff Cross dogs who are more than seven-year-olds.

The rescue uses kennels and has a rota for volunteers including dog walkers to ensure the dogs waiting for homes are cared for and given the right amount of attention and exercise.

The volunteers are not obliged to work every week and are given training and support from the other team members.

The club has been open since 2012 and became a registered charity last year, they rely completely on personal donations and contributions from other organisations. The kennels they use cost £1,500 per month and they raise these funds through sponsored activities and stalls.

Kate Lee, a trustee at the Senior Staffy Club, said: “The rescue has grown tremendously over the last couple of years and although adoptions are on the ruse, sadly we always have dogs waiting to be taken in. When they are in our care we endeavour to give them the best with regard to exercise, company and affection, and best vet treatment we can. Both of these volunteer roles are essential for us to be able to achieve this.

“Although the fund-raising role is not as hands on with the dogs, it is an extremely important and vital role, which enables the charity to keep helping these senior dogs in need.

“This role is fun and dynamic and enables you to meet lots of interesting people. You will not only be raising funds but will also be promoting the dogs and helping to find them homes.”
