Staff bring the 'force' to Worcester college

STAFF at Worcester Sixth Form College have created their own galaxy far far away by transforming their classrooms into various sets from Star Wars, all for charity.

With help from family and friends, staff at the college spent more than nine hours converting the corridoors, Tutorial Hub and Exams office into various sets from Star Wars in preparation for the week long event in support of St. Richard’s Hospice.

Now the eighth year the team have chosen a fancy dress theme to raise money for the Hospice in memory of two former colleagues, the theme was chosen to coincide with the premiere of the new Star Wars film ‘The Force Awakens’.

In previous years the College has been taken over by ‘evil movie characters’, ‘cats’ and the ‘Wizard of Oz’ and this year by characters from ‘Star Wars’ including Princess Leia, Darth Maul, Darth Vader, a Storm Trooper and Kylo Ren.

Students and staff were invited to make a donation to St. Richard’s Hospice with collection buckets being taken around College at break and lunch times to raise as much as possible by the end of the week.

Michael Kitcatt, Principal, said: “The staff who have been involved have worked tremendously hard to raise money for this excellent cause. We have been delighted by the positive response from all staff and students and by their generosity. This annual event is a major contribution to our sense of community as a College at this time of year.”

More than £200 has been raised so far, not including gift aid donations by staff.
