KIND-HEARTED staff at a Worcester opticians raised more than £1,000 for charity after taking part in a 16-hour golf day challenge.

Four members of the team at Specsavers’ Broad Street store, Alan Richards, Dean Taylor, Mike Walker and Yasser Zahran completed four rounds of 18-holes to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 72-hole challenge took place at Worcester’s Bransford Golf Club which features 14 lakes and two challenging island greens.

Store director Alan said: “We’re so pleased to have raised more than £1,000 so far for Macmillan and I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has already donated to this fantastic charity.

“The golf day really was a challenge – we must have walked more than 15 miles throughout the day – but it was worth it to raise funds and show our support for the thousands of people battling cancer across the country.

“Cancer is something that has sadly affected too many of us, either directly or through someone close to us. Raising money for Macmillan funds specialist care for those who are in desperate need of it.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you Bransford Golf Club for allowing us to use their course for free. It was very generous offer and we thoroughly enjoyed all four rounds.”

The staff are planning to hold more fund-raising events over the coming months.
