Spitfire graces Polish celebrations

Worcester Editorial 30th May, 2019   0

A REPLICA Spitfire from the Second World War was among the attractions at the first Polish Heritage Day which was held in the heart of the city centre.

The packed day of entertainment for residents of all ages marked the sacrifices made by Polish people during the Second World War and their ongoing contribution to British life

It’s the first time such an event has been held in the city and Cathedral Plaza was packed with large crowds as they enjoyed music, street food and dancing.

The theme of this year’s Polish Heritage Day is the 250th anniversary of the permanent diplomatic presence of Poland in the United Kingdom and the centenary of the renewal of Polish-British diplomatic relations.

Second World War veteran Edward Szymczak, a 96-year-old Polish lieutenant who served with II Corps was among those in attendance with friend and organiser Tomasz Wisniewski, founder and sitting president of the Worcestershire Polish Association.
