Southern Link section to close as work nears completion

ONE OF the city’s busiest stretches of road is set to close next week for five nights as part of an £8million scheme to improve the surface.

The Broomhall Way section of the A4440 between the Ketch junction and Norton junction will be shut from Sunday (February 15) to next Friday (February 20) between 8pm and 6am.

During the work the Kempsey, Worcester and Powick arms of the Ketch junction will be managed by three-way traffic lights, while diversions are set to be put in place in Worcester from Whittington island via London Road, the Sidbury junction and Bath Road.

Coun Simon Geraghty, Worcestershire County Council deputy leader and cabinet member for skills, economy and infrastructure, said: “This work is happening overnight and during half-term to minimise any inconvenience as much as possible and in advance we would like to thank motorists for their patience while it is taking place.

“The work marks a key milestone in phase two of the Southern Link Road improvements, due to be completed by June.

“This is part of a phased approach to dealing with one of the most congested routes in the county, which will benefit motorists by improving transport links and infrastructure, helping to boost the local economy.

“Our overall aim is to dual the Southern Link Road from Whittington to Powick, including Carrington Bridge, and phase two forms part of this overall plan.

“Schemes like this are part of our Open for Business strategy and contributing to our long term aim of building a World Class Worcestershire.”
