Sounds of the Sixties on offer as The Searchers return to Worcester

Worcester Editorial 26th Nov, 2018   0

AN EXCITING evening full of the sounds of the Sixties Merseybeat scene will fill Huntingdon Hall in a festive concert from a city promoter.

Music impresario John Banner will welcome The Searchers in a Christmas special next Saturday (December 8) for a night of music and memories.

The popular Mersey band emerged in 1963 as part of the 60s Liverpool music scene along with the Beatles, The Mersey Beats and Gerry and the Pacemakers.

Second only to the iconic Beatles as Liverpool’s finest 60s group, The Searchers are legends from the era which transformed entertainment history forever.

Needles and Pins, Sweets for my Sweet and When You Walk In the Room will be among the hits on a night not to be missed.

One of the last genuine bands still in existence, the original sixties Searchers are still led by Liverpudlian John McNally, along with Frank Allen plus long-standing member Spencer James who came in when Mike Pender decided to move on and Scott Ottoway who replaced Eddie Rothe when he teamed up with Jane McDonald.

The Searchers have announced, reluctantly, due to old age, infirmity and an ever-growing list of ailments they will be calling it a day at the end of March next year, so this event will be the last time they grace a Worcester stage.

A special and emotional night is on offer at this sell out festive treat.
