Soap-er stars beat the Bubble Rush for Acorns

Worcester Editorial 5th Jul, 2018   0

HUNDREDS of foamy fund-raisers descended on Worcester on Saturday to raise vital money for local children and their families.

More than 700 friends and families flocked to Worcester Racecourse to walk, run and jog their way through a sea of multi-coloured foam for the Acorns Bubble Rush.

The 5km soapy spectacular was held to raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice towards its care for life-limited and life-threatened children, across Worcestershire and the Three Counties.

Excited bubblers took part in fancy dress, setting off in one giant wave. All entrants received a Bubble Rush T-shirt and finish line medal. Star Bubblers, participants who raised £100 or more in sponsorship, were given VIP treatment and received a limited edition T-shirt and goodie bag.

Among those raising cash were a group of first-year student children’s nurses from the University of Worcester who have raised a staggering £1,000 for the charity.

Acorns senior events officer Sam Greatrex, said: “It has been an awesome day! It was an amazing sight seeing hundreds of smiling people being showered with masses of bubbles.

“Thank you to everyone who signed up to take on the bubble canons and to all the volunteers who worked so hard. Your help and generosity means Acorns can continue to fund vital care for children and young people and support for their families.”

“We’re thrilled Bubble Rush was great fun for everyone involved, but from a fund-raising point of view, events like these are so important. Acorns needs to raise £10 million to fund the care we provide.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care to children and young people and support for the family.

In the past year Acorns has cared for more than 870 children and more than 1,090 families, including those who are bereaved.
