Snapping up success

A CROOME photographer’s photo of the parkland’s iconic Chinese Bridge has been selected to feature in the 2017 National Trust Handbook.

John Hubble’s photograph of the National Trust site’s historic Chinese Bridge recently finished runner-up in the nationwide competition, which saw more than 8,000 people enter.

The panel of five judges, which included television presenter Julia Bradbury and professional photographer Andrew Butler, were impressed by the ‘fairy tale’ quality of the image.

Mr Hubble, who also won a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ330 for his photograph, is an avid photographer and regularly contributes stunning images for Croome’s website and social media.

The National Trust Handbook is sent to more than 4.5 million members.

Mr Hubble said: “I’m an opportunistic photographer and this picture was taken on a morning walk in Croome’s parkland with my dog.

“I try to create images that I find appealing, in the hope others might like them too. As tripods are not compatible with dog walking, most of my photographs are taken hand held.

“In the winter when light is more limited, I mainly take landscapes using a wide angle lens. In the summer, I tend to use a longer lens to take wildlife photos although, as in this case, a longer lens offers a different perspective on the landscape.”

The National Trust will hold another photo competition this year, where the winning photograph will appear on the cover of the charity’s 2018 member handbook.

Croome’s park and lakeside are open from 10am to 5.30pm and Croome Court is open from 11am to 4.30pm every day.

Call the National Trust site on 01905 371006 or visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/croome to apply or for more information.
