Sirens’ call to Worcester Show

Worcester Editorial 7th Jun, 2019   0

ASPIRING photographers, budding cooks and enthusiastic artists are among those being sought for this year’s Worcester Show.

City residents are being sought to showcase their talents at the event in Gheluvelt Park on Sunday, August 11.

There are more than 140 classes to enter, with gift vouchers offered as prizes for a number of them. In addition to gardening categories where residents can show off their fruit and vegetable produce, there are a large number of handicraft, cookery, art and photography classes, including several special categories for children and young people.

All the classes are free to enter.

New classes for 2019 include photography challenges to snap a ‘hidden gem in Worcester’ – or some Worcester architecture pre-dating 1900; a culinary challenge to create a cake decoration from sugar; and making a floral arrangement inspired by a British landscape.

A new schools garden class aims to encourage pupils to produce a written account of their gardening experience and to produce and display a ‘school garden scrapbook’.

There are a number of fun creative classes for children aged 11 and under to enter, such as creating a futuristic skyscraper out of recyclable materials or making an imaginary bird out of clay.

An Under 18’s Trophy will be awarded for the most points gained overall in the Show.

Gerry Leith, Worcester Show chairman said: “There are so many people with creative talents living in the area – the Worcester Show is the perfect opportunity to celebrate this talent.

“Even if you’ve never entered the Show before, then don’t miss out this year! There’s always a really friendly atmosphere at the event, and it’s a great opportunity to see what others have created too.”

Visit www.worcestershow.org.uk or call the Customer Service Centre on 01905 722233 for more.

Deadline for entries is August 5 apart from entry to the photography classes, which has an earlier deadline of July 31.
