Signed Formula One shirt puts foodbank on track for funding boost

MOTORSPORT fans can join the race to win a shirt signed by one of Formula One’s top stars – while helping to raise vital funds for Worcester Foodbank.

The charity is in pole position to benefit from the prize draw organised by Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, which will see the winner take home a shirt signed by members of the Red Bull racing team including its leading driver Max Verstappen.

The shirt has been generously donated by one of the bank’s clients County Building Supplies in a bid to boost foodbank’s efforts to help the growing number of households that are struggling to afford essentials like food in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

People are being encouraged to make a voluntary donation of at least £10 to enter the free prize draw with the bank’s charitable foundation due to double the amount raised.

Grahame Lucas, Worcester Foodbank Manager, said: “It’s a wonderful gesture and comes at a critical time for us as we support the large numbers of people who have been hit particularly hard by the financial impact of coronavirus.”

“Lockdown may be easing but the prospect of rising unemployment as businesses battle to recover means many more households will struggle to put food on the table.”

Mark Smith, Relationship Director at Lloyds Bank, said: “Foodbank is a charity close to our heart and now – more than ever – it is providing an essential lifeline to people plunged into crisis due to circumstances beyond their control.”

“We hope the recent start of the Formula One season will fuel even more interest in the prize draw and deliver a timely boost to the fight against hunger.”

As well as featuring the signature of eight-time race winner Verstappen, the shirt has also been signed by his team-mate Pierre Gasly, Team Principal Christian Horner and Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey.

The draw closes on 31 July at 5pm with the winner set to be pulled out of the hat by Gary Woodman, Chief Executive of the Local Enterprise Partnership.

Those entering the draw should email their details to [email protected] with a receipt of their donation to foodbank which can be made online at www.worcester.foodbank.org.uk
