Sign back to where it all began

THE KICK OFF of Sunday League football in the city has been marked with a commemorative plaque at the entrance to a popular city park.

A sign to mark the founding of Pitmaston FC in 1966 was unveiled on Friday (March 6) at Pitmaston Park by Coun Alan Amos and Barry Potter, whose efforts back in the 60s saw a Sunday League established in Worcester.

Coun Amos, the county councillor for Bedwardine used his County Council fund to pay for the large permanent sign at the entrance to Pitmaston Park and said he was delighted to fund the scheme.

β€œIt is a reminder football has a long and proud heritage in the heart of our community in Bedwardine, both reminding people of the players and history of the men who started it all,” he said.

β€œI also hope it will be an encouragement to new generations of boys and girls to get involved with this kind of positive activity involving exercise and fun so they can carry on this tradition into the future.”
