CREATIVE and green fingered city residents are being invited to showcase their talents in this year’s Worcester Show.
Entries are now open for the popular annual event which celebrates the skills of local people, and which was attended by more than 10,000 people last year.
There are more than 120 competition classes to enter for this year’s show, which will take place in Gheluvelt Park on Sunday, August 13.
Classes range from growing giant vegetables to displaying flowers and floral decorations, creating handicrafts and photography, baking and modelling.
There is something for everyone – including special classes for young people and novice growers.
Fun and creative classes for all ages include creating a picture or collage of your favourite season; building a spaceship from recyclable objects and making a sea creature out of fruit or vegetables.
There are now under 18’s classes in every section, and a new under 18’s trophy will be awarded for the most points overall in these classes.
Worcester Cactus Society is also offering free membership to everyone who enters the under 18’s class in Cacti and Succulents.
All the classes are free to enter and this year to open up the field to less experienced exhibitors, competitors can only enter up to two entries per class.
“Now that some warmer, drier weather is here, green-fingered residents are being encouraged to dust off their trowels and start planting to ensure they can harvest their fruit and vegetables in time for this year’s Worcester Show,” said Gerry Leith, Chairman of the Worcester Show committee.
“The show celebrates the amazing creativity of local people, and is a really fun day out for the whole family.
“If gardening isn’t your thing, there are many artistic and creative classes on offer too. Enthusiasm is the only quality you need to enter,” he added.
