CREATIVE pupils from a Worcester school turned £5 into £4,500 when they took part in a challenge for St Richard’s Hospice.

The group of 90 students, from Year Eight at RGS Worcester on Upper Tything, took on the Flourishing Fivers project which challenged them to turn £5 into as much money as possible.

Raising £4,517.22 for the hospice, the creative fund-raising ideas included cake sales, nail painting, craft sales, bike rides and a triathlon. Four students walked the 31-mile Worcestershire Way over two days and another group of four cycled from Birmingham to Droitwich.

Joanna Marsh, religious studies teacher and Head of lower school co-curricular activities at RGS Worcester, said: “We are so proud of the commitment and sheer inventiveness of the Year Eight pupils in their bid to raise money for the Flourishing Fivers, from sponsored walks up Ben Nevis to nail painting. Guess the Name of the Penguin and sales of hot chocolate, the events were varied and fun.”

Jayne Sargeant, community fund-raiser at St Richard’s Hospice, said; “We are delighted that RGS Worcester have supported us again this year with our Flourishing Fiver’s campaign. The Year 8 students have excelled with their fundraising activities.”
