A MUCH-LOVED Worcester college will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a Royal visitor.

HRH The Countess of Wessex will be visiting New College Worcester (NCW), a national residential school and college for young people who are blind or partially sighted, this Friday (May 20).

To celebrate the college’s special milestone, Her Royal Highness will enjoy a short performance from the students, a tour of the College and a chance to spend time in the Independent Living Skills department, where students learn essential life skills in preparation for moving on from NCW.

Her Royal Highness will also hear about the extensive Outreach work of NCW, supporting students who are visually impaired, and the professionals working with them, across the UK.

New College Principal Mardy Smith, said “It is a great honour to have a Royal visitor to the College, and it is particularly special as this year is our 150th Anniversary.

“We hope to give The Countess of Wessex a flavour of what we do here with our young people, in terms of both their educational achievements and in their preparation for living independently when they move on from NCW.

“A lot of what we do is about building confidence and self-esteem and I hope that this will be evident during the visit.”
