Robbers snatch woman's handbag on canal towpath

A WOMAN had her handbag stolen in a terrifying daylight robbery on a canal towpath in Worcester.

The incident happened on Tuesday (September 2) about 2.20pm near to the Cavalier pub on Merrimans Hill.

Two men approached the victim, a 49-year-old woman and pushed her over before they grabbed her handbag and ran off in the direction of the play area on Lansdowne Road.

A witness also saw the robbers run onto the Royal Grammar School cricket field towards Flag Meadow Walk.




The men are described as white, aged 18 to 23, 5ft 7 or 8 ins in height and both of a slim build.

One had short brown hair and was wearing a black t-shirt while the other had an oval shaped face with light brown hair and was wearing a white vest top and carrying a dark handbag.


Det Cons Manny Sidhu, the investigating officer, said: “The victim was left very shaken but thankfully wasn’t seriously injured.

“We wish to hear from anyone who saw two men of these descriptions in the area at the time of the robbery.”
