A CREATIVE city youngster has beaten off competition to design the Mayor of Worcester’s Christmas card

Little Rhea McLoughlin’s colourful drawing – showing Santa Claus and a snowman at the Guildhall – was chosen as the winner in the first ever primary school competition to design the Mayor’s festive greetings card.

The seven-year-old’s winning entry will be printed on around 500 cards to be sent to schools, charities, organisations, clubs and businesses across Worcester.

Rhea said: “I’m very happy. I was told by my teacher in front of my class that I’d won and they all gave me a round of applause.”

Mum Clair McLoughlin, said: “I am really proud of her because she tried so hard to get the picture just right. Rhea loves drawing and when she heard she’d won she was bouncing around and screaming because she was so excited.”

Mayor of Worcester, Coun Jabba Riaz, said: “All the entries were of an extremely high quality and I’m very grateful to all the many children who went to so much effort to enter this competition.

“It was tough to choose a winner, however Rhea’s drawing really captured the Guildhall as an icon of our city and embraced my theme of love, not hate.”

Rhea is a pupil at Hollymount School which will also recieve a £50 gift voucher for art materials.
