Residents see red for British Heart Foundation

CHARITABLE residents turned their care home into a sea of red to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Staff joined the residents at Regent Residential Care Home in St John’s in dressing from top to toe in red last Friday (February 6) to support the charity’s Wear It Beat It fund-raiser.

Everyone made a small donation to the British Heart Foundation and enjoyed an abundance of tea, coffee and cakes as well as a raffle.

As well as raiding their wardrobes for their finest crimson attire, some residents even painted red hearts on their faces.

Peggy Carter, aged 91, said: “I’ve really enjoyed taking part in the fund-raising activities – I managed to find something red to wear and decorating heart shaped cookies was lovely! All the staff did a great job in organising the British Heart Foundation event.”

Glenis Davies, 93, added: “I had to borrow a red cardigan off a friend, so I could take part in today’s Wear It Beat It day –couldn’t miss out.

“The staff really made an effort to decorate the home and themselves, we all had a wonderful day.”

Money raised at Regent and other Wear It Beat It events across the country will help the British Heart Foundation – the biggest funder of charitable heart research in the UK, to fund life-saving research into coronary heart disease, the UK’s single biggest killer.

Jemma Robinson, home manager said: “Our residents and the team had a fantastic time and made a huge effort to dress from top to toe in red.

“It was a wonderful day and we had great fun decorating our heart shaped cookies and welcoming people from the community along to help us support the British Heart Foundation.”
