WORCESTER residents are being urged to register to vote so they can have their say in two upcoming elections and the EU referendum.
Voters will go to the polls on May 5 to elect two new City Councillors in 12 of the city’s 15 wards and a new Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Mercia region. Just seven weeks later, on June 23, they will also be voting in the crucial referendum on membership of the European Union.
With the deadline on April 18, Worcester City Council is encouraging people to register online or by post.
Di Thomas, Electoral Registration Officer at Worcester City Council, said: “Anyone not yet registered to vote should do so as soon as possible so they can have their say on issues that affect their day-to-day lives. I’d urge people living in Worcester to spread the message among family and friends that it only takes a few minutes to complete the form and register to vote online.”
Ben Brook, Head of Performance and English Regional Teams at the Electoral Commission, said: “It’s important that anyone who’s eligible, but has not yet registered to vote, does so. It’s easy and quick to do online.”
To register, visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or get a paper copy of the registration form by contacting the electoral registration office on 01905 722530 or [email protected].
