A SOUTH Worcestershire care home resident has marked a century of life on earth with celebrations among fellow residents, staff and loved ones.

Reginald Whitworth, fondly known as Reggie, was born in 1924 and began his 100th birthday festivities with a special rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ from the Droitwich Spa Community Choir.

A highlight of the celebration’s at Dorset House care home in Droitwich was a rare gathering of Reggie’s children, including one who travelled from abroad.

Amidst laughter and shared memories, Reggie was touched to receive a birthday card from The King and Queen Consort, a poignant acknowledgement of his special day.

The 100 year-old, was raised in Smethwick. He studied at Smethwick Technical College before a fulfilling career as a lecturer and head of engineering at Birmingham Polytechnic.

Reggie found his lifelong partner in Audrey, whom he married in 1949. Together, they raised five children.

Despite the demands of his profession, Reggie always made time for his passions, be it music or gardening.

An active participant in church choirs like the Bournville Voice Choir, Reggie’s love for music resonates at Dorset House, where he often serenades residents and guests, filling the home with harmonious melodies.

Reflecting on the celebration, home manager Karen said: “Reggie’s centennial milestone was a deeply touching moment for all of us at Dorset House.

“Witnessing him surrounded by loved ones and cherishing each moment was heartwarming. We’re privileged to have been part of his special day.”
