A REFLECTIVE space has been installed at Worcester Cathedral to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.
The safe space, in the Dean’s Chapel, is in memory of those who have been lost and in support of those who are struggling.
There is a prayer tree in place for hope and remembrance, and visitors are invited to write a message on one of the tags provided and add it to the branches.
There are also leaflets and information signposting to help available for anyone who is, or who knows someone, going through a difficult time, and a safe space to find a moment of peace.
The Dean of Worcester, the Very Revd Dr Stephen Edwards, said: “This year the International Association for Suicide Prevention has set the global theme ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide,’ with a clear and powerful call to action: ‘Start the Conversation.’ Our safe space for reflection and support is open for anyone to drop in and take a peaceful moment for themselves, ask for support or seek support services available to them.”
This space opened to the public on Wednesday (September 10) and will remain open until 5pm on Wednesday September 17.
For those in crisis, help is available at the cathedral, by asking to speak to a member of the clergy or the cathedral’s safeguarding officer.
Help is also available by calling NHS on 111, Samaritans on 116 123, Shout text 85258 or Papyrus support for young people text 88247, email [email protected], or call 0800 068 4141.
