A FORMER Worcester councillor has shared his memories of the day he welcomed the Queen to Worcester as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Alan Feeney was chosen to be master of ceremonies in July 2012 at a luncheon in the Assembly Room at Worcester Guildhall in July 2012.
On the day the late Queen was accompanied by her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
He said: “I was struck by the gravitas that accompanied the late Queen and the effortless way in which she could command a room, without ever needing to be the centre of attention.
“I had to extend my duties slightly to pouting wine however, as the waiting staff were a little intimidated.
“The Queen declined however, as she had her Dubonnet and that was plenty.”
He commented that the mere suggestion the Queen was entering was all it took to bring silence to the room.
He added: “It was an amazing day, with crowds packing streets all over the city.
“Everyone wanted to learn about our regalia, the city sword, maces and history.
“It was a memory that will last forever, and I will share it at every opportunity. May her late Majesty rest in peace.”
