THERE will be a quacking time to be had next Saturday, August 10, when the annual St Richard’s Hospice Duck Race takes place on the River Severn, writes Cameron Mowat.

The popular event signals the start of the Worcester Festival and raises crucial funds for the charity with last year’s total standing at almost £3,000.

Supporters can adopt ducks of different sizes from £5 for small, £7 for large and £150 for giant ducks.

The giant ducks are plain and can be decorated using environmentally friendly paint by the sponsor

They can be adopted online in advance or on the day from 11am.

The race will start at 2pm and visitors can watch it from the South Quay.

The event is sponsored by Puddle Ducks Worcestershire and in association with the Worcester Festival.

It is kindly supported by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service who provide safety boat support on the day and will collect all the ducks from the water after the race.

Hospice fund-raiser Claire James said the charity was grateful for all the support it received.

“This is such a fun event for all the family and competitors can get a bird’s-eye view of their own duck racing down the river.”

Visit strichards.org.uk for more information and to order ducks.
