A MAJOR revamp of improvement works on Pump Street have been hailed a success by council chiefs as work enters its final phase.
The final look and feel is beginning to take shape and the street is starting to look similar to The Shambles, where refurbishment works were completed last year.
Throughout July, the focus of the works was on installing the new footways on the section between the junction of Friar Street and The Shambles.
There have also been works on the new drainage system, the installation of sockets for bollards and the first phase of resurfacing has taken place.
Coun Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for Economy and Infrastructure, said: “The works on Pump Street are coming on really well and we can now get a good feel for how much of an improvement they will make to this area.
“We’re doing our best to ensure that these works have as little impact on the local businesses as possible. Pump Street has and will remain open for business during the works, with pedestrian access maintained throughout.
Over the coming weeks, work will continue to complete the footways and kerbing, as well as finishing the remaining drainage works and the installation of four new tree pits.
The improvements will be completed later this summer and will finish with up to five night-time closures of Pump Street to allow the final resurfacing to take place.
