Public urged to vote for Worcestershire tourism champion in national awards

THE PUBLIC is being urged to get behind a Worcestershire tourism champion who is in the running for a top national award.

Mick Hurst, founder of the Battle of Evesham Festival re-enactments, is one of ten finalists in VisitEngland’s Tourism Superstar 2026 Awards.

The competition is one of the UK’s leading honours outstanding individuals in tourism with the winner decided entirely by public vote.

Nominated with the support of Visit Worcestershire and Worcestershire County Council (WCC), Mick is recognised for his role in showcasing one of the county’s most important historical episodes.

The annual Battle of Evesham festival attracts more than 60,000 visitors each year and makes a significant contribution to the region’s visitor economy.

“Being shortlisted for a national award is incredibly humbling. This recognition belongs to the volunteers, performers and supporters who have helped shape the Battle of Evesham Festival since it began in 2018.




“Together, we’ve shared Evesham’s story with thousands of visitors and highlighted Worcestershire’s rich history. Public support through the vote will help us continue this work and welcome even more people to the area,” said Mick who is from Harvington.

His nomination reads ‘Mick Hurst exemplifies the spirit of a Tourism Superstar through his dedication to Evesham’s heritage and Worcestershire’s visitor economy.


‘As founder and CEO of the Battle of Evesham events, Mick has transformed a local reenactment into an internationally recognised, year-round programme, breathing life into history for thousands of visitors.’

Coun Alan Amos, member for business and skills at WCC, added: “Mick’s work has put Evesham firmly on the map, drawing thousands of visitors each year and celebrating an important part of Worcestershire’s heritage.

“This nomination recognises years of dedication and hard work. I encourage everyone across the county to support him and cast their vote.”

The winner will be announced at the end of English Tourism Week, which runs from March 13 to 22.
