Proud father thanks hospital with toy donation

A HOST of toys are set delivered to two children’s wards after a Worcester father vowed to give back to the staff who cared for his newly-born twins.

Darren Wilding had set out to raise £200 for Worcestershire Royal Hospital children’s ward and Birmingham Children’s Hospital which looked after his twins, Thomas George and Ethan Lewis, in their first year of life.

But in the end, his fund-raising efforts saw him almost double his target as he notably completed the Birmingham half marathon last month.

Mr Wilding said he was now looking to buy an array of toys and interactive equipment for sick children to play with at the two wards.

“I am lucky enough to be happily married to my wife Laura and we have been blessed with beautiful twin boys,” he said.

“Worcestershire Royal Hospital’s children’s ward and Birmingham Children’s Hospital have looked after them both on several occasions during their first year of life, so I wanted to raise money for both wards.

“I wanted to try and make a difference because I have seen first-hand what it is like to have your children in hospital.

!The staff on the ward were excellent but the facilities – especially toys and interactive equipment, such as crayons and colouring books – were lacking due to funding restrictions.

“I made a promise to the staff that I would give a little something back.”

Jack Sheldon, team lead of the Just Giving campaign, added: “We’re over the moon that this was such a big success.

“Both wards have been contacted with news of the money raised. They were overwhelmed with the amount raised and were very grateful. They will use the money to buy much needed toys for the wards – making a difference immediately.”
