Primary school prepare for UK's largest wildlife survey

Worcester Editorial 27th Jan, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A WORCESTER primary school is preparing to take part in the UK’s largest wildlife survey this weekend.

Perry Wood Primary and Nursery School pupils will become junior ornithologists this Saturday (January 30) and Sunday (January 31), as part of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

The birdwatch encourages people to take a closer look at the nature on their doorsteps, by counting the different birds which visit their garden in any one hour over the weekend, as well as recording any non-bird species such as badgers and hedgehogs.

The children have spent the week taking part in an exciting project all about birds, where they have created posters, conducted research and designed and made their own bird feeders.

Headteacher, Tracey Kelly-Freer said: “Our school is situated next to the Perry Wood Local Nature Reserve, our classes are named after birds and our school motto is ‘Roots to Grow, Wings to Fly’.

“The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is therefore a perfect project for our children and their families to enjoy at home, so we’re looking forward to taking part in the country’s largest wildlife study this weekend.”
