Pride, Prejudice....and a proposal

A WORCESTER actress was left lost for words when her very own Mr Darcy appeared on stage to propose as the curtain came down on Worcester Repertory Company’s production of Pride and (quite a lot of) Prejudice.

Moments after the production came to an end yesterday (Sunday), Genevieve Lowe was asked to replay the scene where Mr Darcy (Charlie Ryan) proposes to her character Emma.

But instead of a proposing Mr Darcy, Genevieve turned round to discover partner Shane Grant had taken to the stage in front of record-breaking crowds in the Commandery Gardens.

Shane had arranged with director Ben Humphrey for the show to have an alternative finale and popped the question to his own leading lady. Genevieve said yes to the delight of her fiancé, cast and the audience.

“It was such a beautiful moment. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect proposal. I was so happy to be surrounded by the loveliest of people, I am so very grateful for everyone at Worcester Rep and to the audience for helping make the moment so special,” she said.

Shane said: “How could I miss out on the opportunity to be able to ask the most amazing person to marry me in such a spectacular setting? And the chance, even if for the briefest of moments to be Geneviève’s Mr Darcy.

“She thinks I was brave for getting up on stage to ask her, I just consider myself lucky that she said yes.”

A Worcester REP spokesperson said: “Everyone agrees this really was the perfect way to round off one of the most successful Worcester Repertory Company shows at The Commandery to date and wish Geneviève and Shane all the best for the future.”
