Poppies cover city school as mark of respect

THE FRONT of a Worcester school has been covered in poppies as a mark of respect for the people who lost their lives in the Great War.

About 130 hand-made poppies have been attached to The River School after every pupil was asked to make one ahead of Remembrance Day.

Youngsters at the school have also been doing a protect about the First World War, while the school held a two-minute silence yesterday (Tuesday).

Carol Perry, headteacher, said they wanted to do something special this year as it was the centenary of the start of the war.

“We felt every pupil could make a poppy and as the front of our building is a focal point we believed it was appropriate to do this as a school,” she said.

“A lot of the children have spoken to their grandparents to find out story, so something like this just keeps them in touch with what has gone on before and helps them to understand the important of Remembrance Day.”
