Pop-up shops are welcome addition

Worcester Editorial 23rd Apr, 2020   0

HARDWORKING staff at the Alexandra and Worcestershire Royal hospitals can now get hold of snacks and other essentials to support them before, during or after their shift thanks to new pop-up Staff Wellbeing Shops.

Thanks to very generous public donations it is hoped the shops, which will be free of charge to staff, will be continuously stocked with non-perishable food and other essentials and be a lifeline for those staff who might be struggling to get to supermarkets or need a pick-me-up during a long shift.

The shops will be manned by hospital staff and volunteers who will manage the kind donations coming in and ensure the shelves are kept well stocked.

Jason Levy, head of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our local communities – both individuals and companies – who are doing all they can to ensure the key workers in our hospitals are able to get essential items as easily as possible at this unprecedented time.

“We are also keen to thank both existing staff at the hospitals – some of whom have been redeployed to assist in the shop – and volunteers, who are enabling us to open the doors seven days a week.”

Volunteer manager Alison Davis said: “The amount and variety of stock that we have been able to provide is just brilliant. Everything from Energy Bars to Pot Noodle!”

Jo Spicer, liver clinical nurse specialist, said: “This is a wonderful idea. It’s very humbling to know local business/public are supporting us, it really does mean a lot to all the staff. Thank you.”

The shops are currently open once a day from 1pm to 2pm to manage current stock levels, with a view to extending this over the coming days.
