OBSERVER readers are being urged to help a Worcester charity gain tens of thousands of pounds so it can build a special play area for people with a range of disabilities.
Worcester Snoezelen has been nominated for a National Lottery and ITV partnered award called the People’s Millions which offers its winners up to £50,000.
The Turnpike Close based charity wants to use the money to create a fully inclusive soft play area for people of all ages who have physical disabilities, learning disabilities and additional needs.
It will include digital technology such as iPads and be accessible to people in wheelchairs, but they will only get the funding if they receive enough votes when lines open next Wednesday (November 26).
Sean Walsh, marketing co-ordinator, said it was crucial readers hit the phonelines as the money would make a huge difference.
“It will give people who have who have limited physical and/or cognitive awareness the opportunity to access appropriate physical recreation and more importantly to have fun.
“Snoezelen is the area’s leading charity for life enhancing multi-sensory services and your vote could help improve the lives of hundreds of its users.”
The centre was founded by Penny Brazier in 1993 and has gone from strength to strength since with more than 300 people using the service each week.
The telephone number to vote will be released at 9am next Wednesday and promoted on the Worcester Snoezelen website, www.worcestersnoezelen.org.uk, and Facebook page. We will also reveal it on our website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
Calls cost 15p (BT landlines and mobiles) with a maximum of ten per person.
Voting closes at midnight on the same day.
