UP TO 125,000 people packed the city’s streets as they lapped up four festive-filled days at this year’s Worcester Christmas Victorian Fayre.

The annual event took place from Thursday (November 27) to Sunday (November 30) and was run by Hereford and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce for the second year running.

Now in its 22nd year, the fayre, which police say was the busiest to date, saw more than 150 stalls line the streets with arts and crafts, clothes, Christmas decorations, mulled wine, hot food and drink and Christmas gifts all on offer.

It was also opened at midday on Thursday, rather than the previous times of 4pm, and a stage with live music and entertainment was introduced on Cardinal Street.

Helen Mole, head of events at the Chamber of Commerce, said: “The amount of positive feedback we have had is overwhelming.

“We have had visitors, stall holders and local shops all congratulating us and thanking us for putting the event on which makes it all worthwhile really, it is lovely to hear how it’s benefiting people.

“We had a few teething problems last year, I think it’s fair to say we didn’t know what to expect with it being our first year but we have ironed those out this year and really couldn’t be happier with how this year has gone.”

After two years at the helm, the Chamber of Commerce will hand the reigns of organising the fayre over to LSD Promotions, who took over the role as part of the Angel Place revamp.

“It has been a really interesting experience and I think none of the team had any comprehension of how much organising goes into an event we have all been going to for 22 years,” Ms Mole added.

“We have loved every minute of it really, we have really enjoyed organising it and are looking forward to seeing what LSD Promotions do next year.”

This year’s winner of the best food stall went to Checketts of Ombersley for their deli stall, while Malvern-based Respoke Jewellery claimed the best non-food stall award.
